From Falling in Love to Learning to Love

Passage: Song of Solomon 6:1–12
Discussion Questions:
1. Conflict and Covenant
The husband doesn’t begin with criticism or defensiveness, but with reaffirming his love and commitment. How might starting with covenant love (rather than the details of the conflict) reshape the way we handle disagreements in marriage, friendships, or even church relationships?
2. Seeing the “Future Version” of Each Other
The sermon suggested that in Christian marriage, when we long for “someone better,” we can instead envision the future version of our spouse being transformed by grace. What does it look like to practice this kind of hope-filled vision in daily life?
3. Redemptive Conflict
We often think of conflict as purely negative, but the sermon described it as a “rock tumbler” that God can use to refine us. Can you share a time when conflict—though painful—led to deeper intimacy or growth in your relationship with God or with someone else?
4. Our Relationship with God
Just as marriage involves conflict and reconciliation, so does our walk with God. Why do you think God allows tension, struggle, and unanswered prayers in our spiritual lives? How have you experienced God’s presence and faithfulness through conflict or hardship? Reflect on how the cross of Christ is the ultimate indicator that conflict can be redemptive.
