Love Strong as Death

Passage: Song of Solomon 8:6–7
Discussion Questions:
1. Belonging and Identity
Song of Songs describes the seal on the heart and arm as a picture of belonging. In what healthy ways do you experience “mutual belonging” in your closest relationships? What might it look like for the church community to embody that kind of belonging for people who are single, widowed, or otherwise without a spouse?
2. Love's Relentless Commitment
The passage compares love’s strength to death—unyielding and unstoppable. How do we balance this vision of relentless commitment with the reality of human weakness and failure in our marriages, friendships, and community life?
3. Finding Good Friendship
C.S. Lewis suggests that friendship often begins with the “You too?” moment — a shared passion, struggle, or joy. What qualities do you think are essential for a good, lasting friendship? How does the gospel provide a “secret thread” to create relationships even across differences and divides?
4. God's Jealous, Unquenchable Love
The sermon ends by reminding us that human love, even at its best, is limited—yet God’s love is stronger than death, and eternal. How could a relationship with God through Christ reframe the way you see your earthly relationships, especially in times of loneliness, conflict, or loss?
