A Wedding Feast

November 30, 2025 Speaker: Brad Carpenter Series: Second Advent

Passage: Matthew 22:1–14

Discussion Questions:

1. Living in the “Already/Not Yet”
The sermon highlights that Advent points to both Christ’s first coming and his second.

  • Where do you feel the tension of the “already/not yet” most in your own life—areas where God has begun a good work but the fulfillment still feels distant?
  • How does this season of Advent reshape the way you wait?

2. Responding to the Invitation
Jesus’ parable shows some invited guests who refuse the king’s invitation, while unexpected guests gladly receive it.

  • What are some of the modern “farms and businesses” (distractions, priorities, comforts) that can keep us from responding fully to God’s invitation?
  • Which of these are most tempting for you?

3. The Wedding Garment
The sermon interprets the wedding garment as the righteousness of Christ—something we cannot earn but can only receive.

  • In what ways do people today (including us) sometimes try to “dress themselves” for God—depending on their goodness, morality, or performance to be acceptable?
  • How does resting in Christ’s righteousness change your posture toward God?

4. Hope in the Waiting
The picture of the coming wedding feast is meant to cultivate hope and perseverance.

  • How does the image of a future, joyful wedding feast shape your understanding of Christian hope?
  • What practices or reminders help you maintain hope during seasons of long or uncertain waiting?
