The Days of Noah

December 7, 2025 Speaker: Daniel Yoon Series: Second Advent

Passage: Matthew 24:36–44

Discussion Questions:

1. Understanding What We Don’t Know

  • Jesus says no one knows the day or hour of his return (v. 36). Why might it be good for us to not know? How does the sermon address the danger of speculation or date-setting?
  • In Noah’s day people lived life “as usual” until judgment came (vv. 38–39). What parallels do you see between Noah’s generation and our own?

2. Understanding What We Do Know

  • The sermon emphasized that Jesus will return, even if we don’t know when. How does that certainty shape Christian hope?
  • How does Jesus’ promise (John 14:3) and the witness of Scripture (Acts 1:11; 1 Thess. 4) strengthen your belief in his return?
  • Reformed theology often emphasizes the already/not yet—the “long engagement.” How does living “between the times” affect the way you view your daily life?

3. Understanding What We Do With What We Know

  • The sermon mentions that we’re often distracted by “the urgent” over “the important.” What are some examples in your life where the temporal has eclipsed the eternal?
  • Living today in light of tomorrow: How might your priorities or habits change if you truly believed Jesus could return at any moment? How does the promise of Christ’s return bring comfort in seasons of suffering?
  • Gospel-centered reflection: How does the gospel protect us from fear when we think about judgment and Christ’s return?
