Willing to be Weak
March 8, 2026 Speaker: Steven Reitz Series: Lent 2026: Do Good
Passage: James 4:11–17
Discussion Questions:
1. Restrain Your Judgment (James 4:11-12)
- Why does James connect judging others with judging the law itself?
- When have you noticed yourself internally judging someone rather than loving them?
- What is the difference between wise discernment and sinful judgment?
- In what ways might humility change how we speak about people at work, in church, or in our families?
2. Remember Your Limitations (James 4:13-16)
- What assumptions do the planners in James 4:13-16 make about their future?
- Where in your life are you most tempted to act as if you are in control of the future?
- Why do you think remembering our limitations can be difficult or uncomfortable?
- What does it look like practically to live with the mindset “If the Lord wills”?
- How can remembering the shortness of life help us focus on what really matters?
3. Rely on Our Limitless God (James 4:17)
- James says failing to do the good we know is right is sin. Why do you think sins of omission are often overlooked?
- Can you think of a time when you sensed you should do something good (encourage someone, serve someone, speak truth) but didn’t? What held you back?
- How does the gospel—especially Jesus’ humility and obedience—give us hope when we fail?
- What does it mean to depend on God’s grace rather than simply trying harder to be humble?
- What is one area of your life where God may be calling you to humble yourself before Him this week?
