March 15, 2026 Speaker: Daniel Yoon Series: Lent 2026: Do Good
Passage: James 5:1–12
Discussion Questions:
1. Opener
The sermon began with the question: “What would you do if you won the lottery?” What do our answers to that question reveal about our hearts and priorities?
2. The Danger of Wealth
- What specific sins does James accuse the rich of in this passage? Which of these stand out most to you?
- The sermon suggested that our use of wealth reveals the condition of our hearts. In what ways can money act as a “spiritual indicator”?
- According to the sermon, what is the real issue James is addressing about wealth? How is this different from simply saying that money itself is wrong?
3. Principles on Wealth
- How should the reality of Christ’s return shape the way we handle our money and possessions?
- If an outsider looked at your spending habits, what might they conclude about what you value most?
- Where do you personally need to grow more: contentment, generosity, or patience? Why?
4. Three Examples
- The Farmer: What does the example of the farmer teach us about trusting God with things outside our control?
- The Prophets: Why do you think James points to the prophets as examples of suffering and patience?
- Job: James says we see the purpose of the Lord through Job. How does knowing that God is compassionate and merciful help us endure hardship?
