Signs of Life
May 17, 2026 Speaker: Daniel Yoon Series: Short Letters, Big Mission
Passage: 2 Peter 1:1–15
Discussion Questions:
1. Opening
- When you hear the phrase “signs of life,” what comes to mind spiritually?
- What are some evidences of spiritual life and growth in a Christian?
2. Observation
- In verses 3-4, what does Peter say God has already given believers? Why is that important for understanding sanctification?
- Looking at verses 5-7, which of the qualities Peter lists stands out most to you right now? Why?
- What do verses 8-11 teach about the relationship between genuine faith and spiritual fruit?
3. Gospel & Theology Reflection
- How does this passage hold together both God’s sovereignty and human responsibility in the Christian life?
- Peter says growth begins with what God has already done, not what we do first. Why is that distinction so important?
- The sermon said: “You don’t grow by trying to grow. You grow by getting to know God.” What does that mean practically?
4. Application
- Where are you tempted to rely on your own strength instead of God’s divine power for spiritual growth?
- Are there spiritual disciplines or habits you’ve neglected that help you “make every effort” toward godliness?
- What does spiritual “autopilot” look like in your life? What helps wake you up spiritually?
- How can our small group help each other pursue holiness without falling into either judgmental legalism or passive complacency?
- What is one specific way you want to pursue growth in Christ this week through knowing him more deeply?
