Discussion Questions:

1. When have you felt like Moses- unqualified, inadequate, or like the wrong person for what God was calling you to do? What made you feel that way?

2. God answers Moses’ insecurity not by telling him that Moses is strong, capable, or impressive, but by saying, “I will be with you” (Exodus 3:12). Why is God’s presence more important than Moses’ abilities?

3. Moses asks God, “What is your name?” Why do you think knowing God’s name mattered so much for Moses and the Israelites? How does knowing God as the “I AM” change the way we face fear, uncertainty, and suffering?

4. In Exodus 4:10–12, Moses says, “I can’t.” God responds by reminding Moses that he is the Creator who made human abilities possible.

• What does this teach us about the difference between humility and unbelief?
• When does recognizing our weakness become an excuse for disobedience?

5. Where do you currently feel insufficient? How might God be inviting you to depend more on his sufficiency? What is something God may be calling you to do that you are tempted to say, “Someone else should do that”?

6. How does the gospel change the way we think about our weaknesses? Are our weaknesses primarily obstacles God must remove, or places where God often displays his grace?
