Discussion Questions:

1. Looking at vv. 1-13. What is at stake for every household in Egypt that night including Israelite households? What details in these verses show that the coming danger was not limited to the Egyptians?

2. (Verse 13) God says, "When I see the blood, I will pass over you." What does this verse leave unsaid about a house without the blood? Why might that silence be significant?

3. In the sermon, Travis said, "Israel is not spared that night because Israel is Israel." What "safety nets" do we tend to quietly trust in instead of Christ- religious upbringing, personal morality, church attendance, family heritage? Which of these, if any, do you find yourself leaning on?

4. Look again at verses 3-7. What details does the text give about the lamb? Why does God focus on the substitute and not the family?

5. Look again at verses 21–23, 28, and Read Hebrews 11:28. How would you describe the quality of Israel's faith that first night- calm and mature, or hurried, untested, and likely afraid? How completely did it "work" anyway? What does that teach us about the relationship between the strength of our faith and its effectiveness?

6. Do you tend to evaluate your standing with God by how strong your faith feels, or by what your faith is resting on? How might this passage begin to change that instinct?

7. Read John 1:29 and 1 Corinthians 5:7. Both point back to the Passover lamb, fulfilled in Christ. What is one specific area of life where you tend to rest on your own spiritual performance rather than on Christ's sufficiency?
