I Believe

September 13, 2026 Speaker: Brad Carpenter Series: Creed

Passage: Genesis 1:26–28

Discussion Questions:

1. The sermon said: “Anthropology is inseparable from theology”- what we believe about God profoundly shapes what we believe about ourselves.

How does believing that God is the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth help you answer the questions, “Who am I?” and “What is my life for?”

2. Genesis 1:26-28 says that human beings are made in the image of God and therefore have a unique dignity and value.

  • Where do you see our culture--and perhaps your own heart--looking for value?
  • How would our lives look different if we really believed that our value comes from being made in God’s image?

3. Genesis 1:22 emphasizes the relational nature of God, that we are not autonomous individuals but were created for relationship- with God, with other people, and with creation.

  • What are some ways our desire for independence can work against the relational purpose for which God made us?
  • What might it look like this week to live more intentionally as someone created for relationship?

4. The Apostles’ Creed helps Christians distinguish between what Christianity is and what Christianity is not.

  • Why is it important for Christians to know the essential boundaries of their faith rather than simply assuming that whatever we personally believe or whatever our culture calls “Christian” must be Christian?
  • Where might you be tempted to confuse your own preferences or cultural convictions with biblical Christianity?
