Pastor Brad Carpenter: As you're finding a way to your seat I'm going to invite a friend up. Join me in the front here,
Steven Wagner Davis. While Stephen is coming up, maybe you've noticed this in the time that you've been here - either you've you've been here once or several times - that we actually have art. We have art on the walls and we have art on the podium and [it's] one of our traditions here at Grace Sacramento. We think God is a God of beauty
and creation and we love the artists in our midst; and, we actually try to commission a piece of art as the a piece of art for each one of our sermon series. So, the piece that you see hanging on the podium right now was commissioned by a local artist. His name is Stephen Wagner Davis.

Stephen, some weeks ago Daniel and I shared with you that we're going to do a fall sermon series on the Gospel of Luke called "That You May Know" and asked you if you would create some art for us. Would you tell us just a little bit about how from that conversation we arrived at this beautiful piece of art?

Stephen Wagner Davis: So, one of the other things that you said to me was that the first part of the series was going to be on the beginning of Luke. You gave me the verses and so
this piece was inspired by those verses to create it. As we already read in Luke, Luke took a a bunch of ideas and events and situations and helped them to make sense. Okay, so the things that he took were already done in the past so he didn't do anything new. So, I didn't either so this piece originally probably most of it was probably six years old and so what I did is I took this piece and I try to communicate... kind of a
making it more understandable. There's some change in it and so it was me taking something that I already done and putting it together in such a way that it might reflect that idea.

Brad: It's beautiful. What's the medium? What are the materials?

Stephen: So, it's canvas okay and then acrylic paint and I used a brush that's about 4 in wide and a roller to make it and typically when I do something like this it's like 25 ft by 12T and I just kind of paint the whole thing.

Brad: Do you have a favorite part, a favorite detail? Well, so, I think as this is becoming that this part down here where it's kind of coming together really reflects to me the those verses in Luke.
Brad: Well, if you get a chance to wander up here today or pretty much any day this Fall and take it in, I would encourage it if you get a chance to catch Stephen and ask him about his art. If that's something you're interested in, take advantage of that. He'll be here today.

Stephen: Wait. I have to talk to these people these people? [laughter]

Brad: If you're interested in being commissioned to be an artist, I'd love to hear from you or Daniel would love to hear from you. Some of the other artwork from previous sermon series are on the wall and we actually use the art as well digitally. So, if you're looking for a sermon from a a particular series and you remember what art you were looking at when you heard it you can go find that art on the website and that'll help you locate the sermon. So, thank you Stephen. Let's give him a hand.

Stephen: Thank you.
